This is getting depressing. Maybe I need to start a “right wing conspiracy of the hour” segment. But even that wouldn’t begin to cover it….
So the holy grail of right wing conspiracies “news” – Wingnut Daily News, more commonly referred to as WND has among their ten or so conspiracies of the day (as far as cover stories go- the main page alone probably covers a conspiracy theory every 2 1/2 minutes of the day), a story from one of the great birther and conspiracy theorists James Corsi, a story claiming John Kerry was an agent of the north koreans.
And actually pretty much claiming that the entirety of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War were enemy agents.
What- we are forty years later- when virtually everyone with the intelligence above that of a slug knows the Vietnam War was a horrible mistake. Based on lies, fear, and false assumptions. A country whose communist government is now a substantial trading partner and who our biggest conflict with in years has been over catfish quotas. (I would urge both conservatives and liberals alike to look into some of what Colin Powell has written about the war in recent years).
But of course- anyone who dared opposed the war was a communist and an enemy. And clearly we would have “won” the war if it weren’t for these traitors.
It’s the same denial that holds Reagan a hero despite what he did in Iran/Iraq. Afghanistan. Virtually every country in south and central america. The military buildup (and the interest on) that is still one of the two major factors in our debt (the other being Bush jr’s Iran and Afghanistan wars- the first wars in US history that did not see a tax increase to help cover their costs).
So I guess this is the 2nd swift boating of Kerry. Misrepresentations and outright lies defaming a man who has long served his country well.
pathetic.
Far right, armchair Chicken Hawks, who never served a day in their lives, ala GW Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfield, are the first to attack the true veterans and heroes.
Indeed. (not that Obama has ever served as well).
But I would say that many of the truly great leaders that have not only served- but seen real combat (ie- been a part of combat troops not a west point- straight to officer, safe in the rear combat) – whether presidents, heads of military or dept of defense, etc have overwhelmingly been among those most inclined to see combat as an aboslute last resort.
War is a horrible thing- which if you look at the rates suicide, unemployent, ptsd, domestic violence,, addiction etc etc among our troops from Bushs war…well…
If you recall, Colin Powell warned the Bush ‘wanna be’s that invading Iraq and Afghanistan was a damn foolish thing to do, and that we’d be there for many years. Of course the armchair hawks overrode him and mocked him. and in the end, who was right???
Anyone who’s been there knows that war is the absolute last resort. Thats what concerned me with Mittens and Ryan. Neither had ever served a day, neither had even one family in the military, and both advocated so strongly for an invasion of Iran. We missed a bullet when those two didn’t get elected.
