Addiction on Valentines day

While Valentines day is one of those “created” holidays, and is more associated with love in the relationship sense- it’s as good a day as any to think of all those you love, or have loved.

I lost a number of friends and family over the years to drugs, and drug abuse- from drunk driving (both victims and perpetrators), to overdoses, cancer from tobacco, liver disease from alcohol, and suicide from depression and bi-polar, for which their drug use was in many senses an attempt at self medication.

I am sure many out there have friends and families with their own addictions- whether it be alcohol or tobacco which odds are will kill them eventually, and prematurely- to heroin, methamphetamine, or the current scourge of prescription pills. It is all to easy to give up, or look down upon them.

But remember- one day it may be to late to tell them you love them- and that day may be much sooner then you think.

So take a moment and think. It never hurts to tell someone you love them. And it does hurt to have failed to do so, when you can no longer due but at their coffin, or their grave.

You may just improve both your lives…

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
