Once again, the scientific evidence shows people of above average intelligence are more likely to use illegl drugs. A british study that has been following people since the 70’s released their data that shows that children with high IQs are substantially more likely to use illegal drugs as an adult. Which of course is the same conclusion reached by earlier studues.
No surprise to me. With an IQ of 165, and having gone through private schools since the 7th grade I have long noticed that the most intelligent tend to either be tee-totallers, or drug users. Alcohol use is remarkably low by comparison.
Countless famous authors and artists have been drug users. Game changing business leaders such as Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, and the founders of Google are just a few who have said drugs played a key role in their sucess and/or have called for the legalization of drugs. A growing number of current and form world leaders, and former drug warriors such as former heads in the justice department are increasingly calling for drug legalization. People smart enough to realize when something has failed, and able to admit mistakes.
And maybe this explains why there is so much scientific and medical research showing drugs, especially marijuana, the psychedelics, empathogens, and dissociatives to be far more beneficial on numerous levels then they are harmful. And why so much of the research showing drugs harm has been proven false- such as the famous “marijuana kills brain cells” where the harm was caused by aphyxiation not inhalation of cannabis. Or the MDMA (ecstasy) study showing damage to serotonin and dopamine neurons… where it turns out they administered methamphetamine and not MDMA. OR the classic MDMA causes holes in the brains, where the black areas in the scans reported as holes turned out to be areas of normal low brain activity that happened to be below the cutoff for colors in the scan- so they appeared black. or the LSD causes genetic damage…well- you get the picture…I could go on and on.
And I think it is pretty natural. The intelligent are more likely to be curious and wish to explore. They are more likely to question what they are told rather then taking it on blind faith.
So once again commonly held views are squashed by the evidence….
