I am basically frightened…

This was a song from the great Colonel Bruse Hampton, a legendary musician many outside of serious music circles have never heard of. In it he listed a bunch of things he was basically frightened of.

One of which was “People who think TV is real”.

Now…I haven’t had cable or similar service for 20+/- years, and really haven’t watched tv much since I grew up with 3 channels to choose from. But I am currently travelling, visiting family, and a TV is often on in the house. And I’m not “basically frightened” – I’m downright terrified.

What passes for news, what passes as entertainment…the “hot shows” I hear so much about…the commercials…what passes for “news” these days- and what topics they decide to discuss as well as how they discuss them…

Or maybe I’m more scared by just how much tv americans watch- 35hrs a week – almost a full time job.

Really- americans love to bitch and moan about their leaders- about the other party, about…well…damn near everything. When I think the truth is as close as the nearest mirror.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.

    We have something in common.
I grew up in a 3 channel area myself.
And I agree with everything you said in this post.
    Especially the last sentence/statement.

I totally agree, so much time is wasted on TV by so many. It really is sad to think about when we could choose to expand our minds, we sit in front of the TV instead and waste time and “time is money.”
