The job lies…

I am tired of both sides playing games with the unemployemt numbers / job numbers, whie ignoring the elephant in the room- many of americas jobs are NOT coming back. The bubble has popped. And as Einstein famously said “You can not solve a problem from the same consciousness that created it. You must learn to see the world anew.”

And that folks, is our challenge. And honestly- the america I see- is not up to it.

Romney and the right is insisting that just catering to the corporations, cutting their taxes (which are already at near record lows) and cutting regulations will magically solve the problem. But this ignores the fact- the major corporations in America are going gangbusters. They are seeing record profits. The stock market is doing great. They aren’t going to be adding new jobs…

The left- at least a small portion of it, and some portions of the right, at least have seemed to realize that corporations, wall street, oil and gas, …the same old same old…aren’t going to save america. If we don’t find the new path for america…

I have been travelling a LOT the past 6 months or so- all over the US, Canada, central america and elsewhere… and I have seen firsthand a lot of the changes we have seen.

Recently I was back in my hometown. The area is traditionally largely agriculture, with a good deal of manufacturing, some mining, and more recently- trucking/distribution.

The agriculture has changed radically. The farms have grown larger and larger, with fewer and fewer workers. The converse of which is pieces of equipment costing $150K, a quarter million, or more… leading to the farms either being in hoc to the banks or the farm equipment credit wings, or selling out to the major corporations in the game and being glorified employees.

Several of the meat processors have recently gone uder due to the “pink slime” controversy. Many more- especially chicken/egg farms have gone under due to laws targetting illegal mexicans, which along with the societal views have made it very uncomfortable even for the multitude of long term legals..causing them all to move elsewhere. And of course- the “true americans” in the area all quit after a few days (you expect me to work how hard? For how much?…now I’m going to the grocery store- gotta pick up cheap chicken and eggs)

The manufacturing is in bad shape. Lack of skilled workers, and lack of work ethic.

The trucking / distribution gig is going relatively well. But it ads few jobs. And the tax breaks and other giveaways given to entice these companies has put a real hit on services- in an area with a high proportion of elderly- people who for the most part worked their ***** off for decades, not being demanding, not being greedy, but with a belief that society would show them proper respect for all they so selflessly gave…

The right, the left, and all points in between need to realize we are at a crossroads. That they all share a good deal of the blame, and none so far have even done a good job of addressing what the issues really are.

So- America. Are you prepared to put politics, relgion, race, and all those other annoying labels aside and once again find what made America great? The american spirit? The willingness to look forward, to think, to innovate? Or will you continue on our current path- “We’re right, and they’re wrong…and all will be fine and dandy again when we have complete control of the show”…?

I would like to say I’m hopeful…but I’m not. And while I don’t think either the Dems nor the GOP have been particularly on top of it, I do think the GOP has made matters even worse since the mid-terms by playing british parliamentary style politics- of winner take and all and not giving a damn how bad they hurt our country, especially as it falls under a dem president, and insisting that it is their way or the highway…

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
