The Scream – $120 Million

Old news maybe- but the famous painting, the scream, from Edvard Munch set a record at auction last week- seeling to an anynomous buyer for $120 million.

$120 million dollars- thats  $120,000,000 . If you could save (not make) a 100grand a year it would take you 1200 years to save that much cash. Thats roughly around 33cents for every man, woman, and child in the US. And someone, somewhere, spent that much on a single painting.  The charachter in the painting I suppose is now squarely within the 1%…

And yet, I’ve seen no one find a cure for cancer. For HIV, for Parkinsons, for MS, hell- not even the common cold. No one’s found a way to create world peace. Solve the crisis of hunger and famine anywhere in the world. Found a solution to the Israelli-palestinian conflict.

So what great contribution to the world has someone made that they can spend $120 million on a single painting?

Really- what kind of world do we live in where somewhere can accumulate that kind of wealth?

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
