Mush, especially from the right, is being made of the NY Times article of Obama personally overseeing the so called “kill list” for drone attacks in the so called war on terror.
And while I have a number of moral reservations- I am also not the president and privy to the inteligence briefings. And while I tend naturally to non-violence and pacifism- I am also a pragmatist. And realize only too well that there are problems that need dealt with sooner then later.
But that’s neither really here nor there….
I should be shocked- but can not be, at the hypocrisy of the right. Those that shout for the death of ALL miltiant islamists (and many who shout for the death of all followers of Islam period)- people who would be proudly defending the president if he wer not a ni…. democrat.
And personally- I am once again surprised- and impressed by the man- Obama. Rather then distance himself from the realities. Rather then hide behind plausible deniability, he has once again stepped to the plate and taken full responsibility for his decisions. And right or wrong- I must respect that. It is a trait far too lacking in our government, in our society.
So- if you have a moral problem with what he is doing- that is more then fair enough. But if you are condemning him, well, because you can…when the reality is you would be suppporting this if it was romney, or mccain, or bush, or… well-
And regardless of your position on the action itself- I would urge you to sit down and think what it means for a president to actually be taking responsibility for something like this himself- something any other president in the last few decades would be pawning off on others- others who would be expendable scapegoats if the winds shifted…
