So Jeb is taking heat for being a heretic from the current GOP establishment. But they should be thanking him. And they, the republican base, and all americans should think carefully about what he has said.
“Reagan would have, based on his record of finding accommodation, finding some degree of common ground, as would my dad — they would have a hard time if you define the Republican Party . . . as having an orthodoxy that doesn’t allow for disagreement, doesn’t allow for finding some common ground,”“Back to my dad’s time and Ronald Reagan’s time — they got a lot of stuff done with a lot of bipartisan support,” Bush added. Reagan today “would be criticized for doing the things that he did.”
And coincidentally, Jeb made his comments on the same day that the conservative “American Enterprise Institute” held a show trial for one of their own who had dared pen an article raising many of the same points about how republicans have lost their way: “Lets just say it: the Republicans are the problem”
The AEI’s page on the “trial”, along with video, is here
While I am not particularly a fan of Jeb Bush, it IS nice to see a politician who is willing to not only work with other parties, but willing to admit when the party line is not working and be willing to cross that line. And a politician who seems to have the interests of the country- not the party, in mind.
