It looks like the people of Alabama might actually elect Roy Moore to the state Supreme Court. You know- Moore, who was removed from his position as the chief justice of state supreme court in 2003 for his refusal to remove the 10 commandments from the courthouse.
Moore, the far right wing conservative. Who has recently opined: “Christians are being persecuted while people of a religion foreign to our country are doing what they want.” and “Thomas Jefferson in his Bill for Religious Freedom said that would happen, when men presume to restrict your freedom then they will allow false religions to come into your country and it all began when he said ‘well aware that the opinions and beliefs of man depend not upon their own will but follow involuntarily the evidence proposed to their minds that almighty God hath created the mind free.’ You see he recognized that God gives him that freedom of conscience and when men come in and try to restrict it what happens is false religions come in and that’s what’s happening in our country today. Christians are being persecuted while people of a religion foreign to our country are doing what they want.”
The man who has previously said that secular government leads to Sharia Law. (so I guess the solution is supposed to be the cristian version of Sharia law?!)
The man who has condemned the teaching of evolution in schools because there is only one (christian) truth.
It is disturbing that in 2012 we see the christian version of a taliban cleric potentially becoming the chief justice of an american state. Religion, of any faith, has no place in our courts or our laws.
Is it any wonder Obama is branded a socialist/communist/marxist, when people are so far to the right, so blinded by their religious beliefs (and hateful of others) that a man like Moore could seem like a good choice for judge?
