Rick Perry, proving why he lost in his presidential bid

Texas Governor Rick Perry, who has left Texas taxpayers on the hook for about $800,000 in travel and security expenses for his failed presidential bid, is refusing to set up an online marketplace for the 6.2 million (roughly 1/4) of the states population to find insurance- ensuring that the responsibility, and the costs, will fall on the federal government and all american taxpayers. Because it will cost Texas taxpayers money!? Hello…care to pay them back for your glory seeking first?

He is also refusing to expand the states medicaid program. An expansion that he says will add 2 million texans to the rolls. Now this expansion is meant to include those making a whopping 130% of poverty line. Now for a reality check- poverty line in the US is considered just over $11k a year for a single person, or $23k for a family of four. Which just goes to show just how many people are living in absolute poverty in the fine state of Texas.

And of course, he ignores the reality of just how much Texans already pay to cover the costs of the uninsured who seek treatment at state hospitals. Or the massive amount lost in productivity from employees without insurance, with substandard insurance, or the many who are lucky enough to have insurance through their workpace but face the reality (without “Obamacare” ) of being branded with a “pre-existing condition” that will keep them from ever being able to change jobs.

Of course- the man that americans chose over Perry in the GOP primaries was the man who proposed, supported, and passed the law Obamacare was built on for his state when he was governor. A man who oddly now denounces the lwas built upon the law he so favored.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
