A historic first. At the Gay Pride parade in San Diego this weekend, US servicemembers, both past and present, were allowed for the first time by the DOD to wear their uniforms. Which 4 dozen proudly did, with hundreds more wearing t-shirts showing their branch of service.
The flag bearer for the parade was 30 year old Marine Sgt Bris Holland, veteran of two tours proudly serving her nation in Iraq.
While the DOD decision only applied to this one event, hopefully it will spread, and our proud service members will be allowed to participate and not be forced to hide who they are- gay americans proudly serving in their nations military.
