More Lies and Hypocrisy from the Right: “Obama is ending the work requirement for welfare reciepients”

This has been all over Fox news, and the usual assortment of the rights blogs and “news” sources.

So let’s look at some facts shall we?

The issue, despite how it is being reported, centers around the Obama administrations to issue waivers to states that request them for the TANF (Temporary Assistance For Needy Families) program. It is a program, passed during Clinton’s tenure- that is meant to provide assistance while trying to get people off of the need for assistance.

So…in 2011 Obama asked all the states for ways the federal government can help reduce federal red tape and buearcracy- and allow the states to work within federal programs in a way that works for them. And the Republican governors of the very red states of Utah and Nevada asked for waivers for the TANF program. Something that GOP presidential nominess Mitt Romeny supported as governor of MA in 2005. As did former GOP presidential candidate and then governor from Arkansas Mike Huckabee the same year. Huckabee- who has now been making the rounds critiizing this.

Indeed, of the handful of states that have requested waivers nearly half have been deep red states.

But ignoring their long time support for this, the house GOP and their media flacks are up in arms. Leading the hypocrisy is Utah senator Orrin Hatch- whose state was in the lead of requesting these very waivers.

Once again- the GOP and the right wing is for something – until it is given to them by a democrat.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
