Romeny’s 47% …and the underlying truths

Much has been made in the past 24+ hours of Romenys comment regarding the “47 percent” who don’t pay taxes. And the left was quick to point out, somewhat disingenuously in the way they did so, that the deep red states lead the way in these folks.

Never mind the claim is in and of itself false- ignoring that many of those who “don’t “pay”, or more appropriately, don’t file, are people who have their taxes withheld from their paychcks, and who, by not filing, aren’t receiving the refunds they are probably due and are actually, unlike Romney, not trying to take every deduction they can to minimize the amount they pay, but are paying more then they owe.

“Now wait a minute” you say- these people may overwhelmingly be in Red States, but the vast majority are likely democrats. Indeed.

And this is as far as the debate seems to have gone…

But shall we, perhaps, consider WHY it is overwhelmingly red states that have a large portion of their population to poor to owe more in income tax? Why, if indeed Republican policies are the path to prosperity we have deep red states leading not only in those too poor to owe more taxes, but leading the way in taking more federal “handouts” then the state puts into the pot? Why they lead in minimum wage jobs? Why they lead, or more appropriately, bring up the bottom, in terms of education and the welfare of children?

Have we become so partisan we are no longer able to ask the right questions?

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
