Republicans witch-hunt outs CIA on live TV

Simply Brilliant. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R- Utah), yes, the Romeny surrogate and one of the chief inquisitors in the Benghazi mess (despite having voted to cut the very security funding he now says was lacking) outed the CIA at the congressional witch hunt.

When a state department official was being questioned, they put up a satelite photo of the compounds

Chaffetz, in his brilliance said:  “We’re getting into classified issues that deal with sources and methods that would be totally inappropriate in an open forum such as this.” “I totally object to the use of that photo,” and  “I was told specifically while I was in Libya I could not and should not ever talk about what you’re showing here today.”

Despite the fact that the stae department official tried desperately to wave him off- pointing out the photo was from a commercial, and hence unclassified and available to anyone, satellite. In other words- shut up. It’s good to show these photos, which anyone can get, and pretend there is nothing important there.

Then of course, Darrell Issa, yes, the grand inquisitor of fast and furious (who showed his own disregard by demanding the public release of documents- documents they were told endangered  present or future operations- and despite his committee being offered the documents for review- refused, and demanded they be released- hence Obama’s “Executive privilege claim over them) stepped in it further. Demanding the photo (which had already aired) be taken down, and further giving things away by saying: “In this hearing room, we’re not going to point out details of what may still in fact be a facility of the United States government or more facilities.”

These republicans also managed to reveal that there was a seven man rapid response force in the building the state dept tried to cann an annex, while forcing a state department official to say that “not necessarily all of the security people” at the Benghazi compounds “fell under my direct operational control.” . While likewise forcing the revelation that they would have been, well, that other government agency.

Let’s face it. These are not, despite appearances here, stupid men. They knew damn well these hearing would have to touch on sensitive and classified information. And as such, as has long been the norm, should have been conducted in closed hearings.

But apparently they are callous, power hungry men. Because they saw an oppurtunity not to serve the american people. Not to get to the bottom of what happened, to identify the countless mistakes and miscalculations that led to this event, and try and prevent it from happening again- but to put on a dog and pony show. To create their narrative, to create sound-bites for Fox news, to fulfill Issas promise to do everything in his power to prevent Obama being reelected.

So once again, the republicans put their lust for power ahead of the well being of america and it’s people. And in so doing- not only fail to do the job they were supposedly elected to do, but put more americans in harms way.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
