Prosecutors in two of Washington states most populous counties- King and Pierce, moved today to dismiss some 220 pending marijuana possession charges.
This in response to voters passing Iniative 502 legalizing marijuana in the state. While the law doesn’t take effect for a month the king county prosecutor said: “I think when the people voted to change the policy, they weren’t focused on when the effective date of the new policy would be. They spoke loudly and clearly that we should not treat small amounts of marijuana as an offense,”
Washington voters, along with those in COlorado became the first to legalize marijuana in the US on November 6th.
