40 Years Ago today: Roe V Wade

630-USWomenWhoHaveAbortions

40 years ago today the Supreme Court of the United States issued the landmark ruling in a case originating in Texas affirming the constiutional right to an abortion.

And yet we see an increasing push- particularly in those supposedly constiution and supreme court loving states, such as Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, Arizona, among many others to limit or effectively outlaw access to abortion.

Oddly enough many of the same people and states behind these moves are the same ones who likewise fight to curtail funding for Planned Parenthood and limit womens access to birth control- whether from groups such as planned parenthood or via traditional health insurace.

As these same people and states overwhelmingly try to limit sex education in schools or mandate abstinence only sex-ed.

As they overwhelmingly try to curtail the social safety net. Programs such as food stamps and wic designed to give poor and or single women financial and social help to actually be able to raise a child.

As these states overwhelmingly lead in categories such as failure of education. Unemployement. Lowest wage jobs. Most citizens requiring government assistance. Lowest rates of child welfare.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
