Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right

oklahoma_city-620x412

In the last few years, and especially since 2007, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of attacks and violent plots originating from individuals and groups who self- identify with the far-right of American politics. These incidents cause many to wonder whether these are isolated attacks, an increasing trend, part of increasing societal violence, or attributable to some other condition.

These are not my words. Nor those of some liberal talking head. But the beginning words of a new study “Challengers from the Sidelines , Understanding Americas Violent Far-Right” produced by none other then the US Army’s military academy at West Point. It can be read in full here.

You can read foryourself some of the (self) righetous (im)moral anger responsesin West Points Twitter feed here . (not sure which of the two is more chilling).

An article and some more relevant links at Salon here.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
