At 62, the Albatross, named Wisdom, is the oldest known living wild bird, and has lived nearly twice as long as the average Albatross. She birthed here chick on the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge.
She is known to have raised 5 chicks since 2006. She was first tagged by scientists in 1956. It is estimated she has flown some 3 million miles since first being tagged.
19 of 21 Albatross species are threatened with extinction, in large part due to human causes.
