This is depressing. The right falling all over themselves with the news from the National Review “The Voter Fraud That ‘Never Happens’ Keeps Coming Back”
Oh my. Ohio is investigating a stunning 19 cases of potential voter fraud. 19 damnit- did you that? And while they conveniently fail to identify the details of the alleged fraud, or who they voted for in 18 of the cases, they focus on a democratic poll worker interviewed by the local news channel.
You see. She sent in her mail in ballot. Voting for Obama/Biden apparently. And with all the hub-bub over the election, and with Ohio being a battleground state, she was afraid her vote might not be counted. So she voted in person as well.
And of course- as in this case- it was caught. Because all states have mechanisms in place for such things.
And of course, despite the veiled claims of this article- voter ID laws would have had no effect whatsoever.
Because, you see, states already have very sucessful mechanisms in place to prevent voter fraud. Which leaves us with just these kinds of cases. The 3 main types of “voter fraud” that exist anymore are people voting twice- usually for non-malicious reasons like this appears to be. Felons who have lost the right to vote voting. And people who have moved and are improperly registered to vote.
And of course this article provides no evidence whatsoever to suggest a single case of in person voter fraud- the only type of voter fraud Voter ID laws would have any impact on. An of course the evidence shows in person voter impersonation to be virtually non-existent- and that thousands, or even tens of thousands of legitimate voters would be disenfranchised by such laws for every case of fraud prevented. Voters who are usually minorities, poor, or elderly- with only the latter group tending to vote republican.
But of course- the republicans learned long ago that disenfranchisement of elgible voters was a far more powerful tool then fraud. So whether it’s robo calls or flyers or billboards in poor and minority areas warning of dire consequences for voter fraud, or directing voters to the wrong polling place, or increaased police precense in poor and minority districts, or robocalls and mailings tell voters that if they are voting a straight democratic ticket they don’t need to vote if they are already registered democratic, or…the countless other tactics….
But of course their are plenty of idiots who can’t even understand that a voter ID law would have had no effect on the single case mentioned, nor seem to comprehend that voter id laws would disenfranchise many more legitimate voters then it prevents supposedly fraudlent votes.
