100 mile “constitution free zone”

Ah yes. Those evil communist, socialist, marxists of the ACLU are at it again…

It would seem the Department of Homeland Securitiy watchdog, after an exhaustive review, as decreed thatthe DHS has the right to seize and search, without cause, any computer within 100 miles of the border. (This also applies to ports of entry- namely international airports anywhere in the US)

Theseare rules, “suspicioneless electronics searches” enacted by Bush, and reaffirmed by the Obama administration. Between 2008-2010 some 6500 people had their computers seized and searched without reason or warrant.

Of course- the evil leftist groups such as the ACLU, EFF  and EPIC have been at the forefromt of both publicising and legally challenging these erosions of our rights. (odd how the proud defenders of our constiution: fox,  the tea party, et al have been silent on real issues that don’t involve guns or relligion.

Personally, I will not take my laptop nor even a cell phone when I travel internationally. (nor can I carry my medical marijuana paperwork, much less my medicine- as the very evidence that I have used cannabis can deny me entry into numerous countries and get me a special fun visit to “the room” at US customs). And while unrelated directly- but relevant, I still have a dear frient serving time, well over 20 years later, for LSD who was stopped and searched, without cause or warrant, by “immigration” police some 80 miles from the texas-mexico border. And I have personal experience with this from my many years in washinton state in the area 60+ south of the canadian border.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
