Sarah Palin: Proving Once Again She’s a Right-Wing(nut)

Wingnut News Daily (aka wnd.com) is “reporting” on claims made by Sarah Palin that the US government is “Stockpiling” ammunition because of fears of civil unrest over the sequester:

She writes on her Facebook page: “If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits, then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest.”

Oh my… such intelligent comments from a former Republican VP nominee and tea-party favorite.

I already offered up some facts and rationallity on the ammunition nonsense here.

But of course, WND takes the conpiracy further:The prospect of civil unrest puts a chilling spin on an off-teleprompter remark then-candidate Barack Obama made in a Colorado campaign speech in July, 2008.

We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded,” said candidate Obama.

Oh dear- how worrying. But maybe we shoud look at the actual quote- and more importantly, the context. From FactCheck :

Here is the relevant portion of what Obama actually said, with the sentences quoted selectively by Broun and others in bold.

Obama, July 2, Colorado Springs, CO: [As] president I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots [from 75,000] and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals, like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens see their effort connected to a common purpose.

People of all ages, stations and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem – they are the answer. So we are going to send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We’ll call on Americans to join an energy corps, to conduct renewable energy and environmental clean-up projects in their neighborhoods all across the country.

We will enlist our veterans to find jobs and support for other vets, and to be there for our military families. And we’re going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set.

We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. We need to use technology to connect people to service. We’ll expand USA Freedom Corps to create online networks where American can browse opportunities to volunteer. You’ll be able to search by category, time commitment and skill sets. You’ll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities.

This will empower more Americans to craft their own service agenda and make their own change from the bottom up.

Wow- how scary…

And of course WND goes on to proudly list their long history of covering similar conspiracy theories over the years. I especially like their link to a 1999 story from the CEO of Wingnut Daily News, Joseph Farah warning “there were more than 80,000 armed federal law enforcement agents, constituting “the virtual standing army over which the founding fathers had

nightmares.”

Oh my. I guess not surprising from the likes of those who only seem to be able to remember half of the 2nd amendment. Not surprising that the US Military- the Army/Navy/Air Force/Marines they so proudly support is in fact the standing federal military the founding fathers warned of- and why they insisted on “well regulated militias” under the individual states control  to provide for the countries protection- from threats both external and internal.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
