Right-Wing(nut) outrage of the day- Obama pardons gun convict

The wing(nut) and gun nut forums, twittervers, blogosphere, and “news” sites are exploding with indignant outrage over Obama pardoning a man, Larry Wayne Thorton of Forsythe GA, who had been convicted for having an illegal gun.

I can’t, in the little time I have, find any facts on the case. But apparently neither can any of these outraged persons- though I must admit, I see no claims that they even bothered trying.

Yes, the man was convicted of a gun offense (possession of an illegal gun w/o serial numbers). But- that hardly means he was guilty.

And let’s face it- Obama has been incredibly stingy with pardons. Traditionally presidential pardons fall into a few categories:

1) Those who had serious issues with their trials.

2)Those convicted of crimes which are no longer crimes or no longer nearly as serious as they were.

3) those who have made amazing changes in their lives

4) those who received unduly harsh punishments, often due to local issues

5) Covering their ***. Such as the pardons related to the Iran/Contra affair under Reagan/Bush or the pardon (actually a commutation) of Scooter Libby in the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame for purely political reasons.

So sorry- I will withhold my moral outrage until someone presents some facts. For now I see a black man convicted in central Georgia. And one only sentenced to probation- not exactly a normal high profile case for a pardon.

All of which leads me to suspect that there is much more to this- that justice was not served but perverted in the original conviction.

So- who can dig up some actual facts on this issue?

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
