Climate Change Deniers at it Again…

…With their usual misrepresentations and outright lies…

Unsuprisingly, quoting the Climate (fr)audit blog of disgraced consipracy theorist right-wing nut Steve McIntyre  (former statician and mineral prospector) of the (in)famous “hockey Stick graph” debacle…

This has to do with the paper released by Marcott et al a few weeks ago in the prestigious and peer reviewed journal Science. A paper that looked at climate data going back a whopping 11 thousand years. And who, for the first time updated decades of core sample data using the most modern method (essentialy- the methods of accounting for issues in radio-carbon dating have improved over the decades, so they reviewed data calculated under older and les accurate methods and applied the current standards).

Anyway- this whole recent bugaboo comes from the fact that with global (man made) climate change we are essentially talking about the period from the industrial revolution on. (Really, less then a century to wreck things.). But were looking at data sets on the order of a 1000 or so years.

So the authors said something to the effect that, yes, our main data samples are too expansive to accurately reflect this short a time span. But this narrow time spans data is coming from other, and arguably far more active observations and measurements.

Which of course, McIntyre trumpeted as their date (somehow) being meaningless.

Which was then picked up by the great scientific minds at The Financial Times. (which they weren’t even brave enough to post as a story but an opinion piece ). Which of course was then picked up by Wingut News Daily and the other usual suspects of the right-wing(nuts).

Does anyone else find it odd that the staticians and financial wizards who so badly blew the math in their area of “expertise” to sink virtually the whole world into economic collapse are somehow the leading “experts” in climate denial?

Anyway, Marcott et all have an excellent rebuttal to this nonsense over at Real Climate here.

It saddens me that the greed is so great. The desire for our “normal” way of life to continue with no changes. That faith and denial seem to be the flipsides of the same coin these people clutch so tightly to….That we, as a society, our so selfish we really don’t give a damn what we leave our children and grandchildren to suffer through so long as we get our kicks.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.
