The $72 Million Dollar Sheriff (and then some)

None other then Joa Arpaio. A man whose career I have followed off and on from its inception. One of the most vile men in america imho.

An article over at The Atlantic on the $21.9 million price tag related to federally required oversight of his, and his offices multiple unconstiutional pratices. With a link to the Phoenix ABC affiliate on the $50 million price tag of the various lawsuits against his office.

And of course- the real costs of his reign (of terror) have been far, far higher. The costs to the feds, and hence the american taxpayer from his seeming belief that every hispanic is illegal. From his draconian enforcement on cannabis. His illegal surveillance of opponents. His requiremnt for gay prisoners to wear pink underwear. His brutal tent camps in the deserts. His refusal to persue many other crimes including rape and child abuse because he was so focused on hispanics, drugs, and that damn kenyan president…

Arpaio has long lived and ruled as if he were in the mythical wild west- with one important difference. In the wild west a sheriff as corrupt as he is would have long ago been killed (and in many such stories by the good man among his own).

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why he is still in office. Perhaps its because Arizona as a state is so extreme in its politics, that Arpiao seems mild in comparison. Well done
