What beauty looks like

A fascinating piece over at The Atlantic of Esther Honig, a journalist and social media manager who sent a simple picture of herself to web designers around the world asking them to photoshop her with the simple request of “make me look beautiful”.

Fascinating. The article along with larger images of the results of beauty from around the world can be found in the link above. More on her site here.

While I can’t find any info, I’d be interested to know if all the designers were men? or which, if any, where women.

About drugsandotherthings

I am a criminal. Because I have used cannabis and psychedelics extensively. I have tried many other drugs, but never cared for the uppers, downers, or dissociatives. I love craft beer, and absinthe, but don't care much for alcohols effects- which quite frankly, are boring and dangerous. Science is my religion. I am in my 40's, and have travelled extensively. And often forced myself outside of my confort zone. I am employed, a respected member of my communtiy, an animal lover, an environmentalist, a political junkie, and the realities I have experienced continue to push me further to the left of the political spectrum.

This is fascinating. I shared it with my daughter as they are craft characters on various games to play. She thought it was cool.

    • You know- I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of “beauty”. Probably because some of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen fall outside, sometimes well outside normal definitions of beauty, even outside of my own preconceived notions of beauty.

I actually remember reading a scientific paper some time ago where they posited that many of the high profile women we see as beautiful- movie stars, super models, etc. , actually have very unusual facial features. That has actually stuck with me, because I agree- often times there are women (that I do not know) that I find beautiful in an odd way. Something I can’t put my finger on but that defy classic examples of beauty.

I’ve also always been intrigued that, to me, women seem to be able to radically change their appearance in simple ways. It is far more common for me to not recognize a woman I know or am familiar with then ever happens with men…

I agree. It is funny that some very attractive women on TV have slightly larger heads than normal that eat up a camera. Or, they may have a beauty mark. Even some of the men, have aberrations that make them look unusually handsome. I think we are all imperfect and it is those imperfections that can be desirable. With all of that said, a woman with a sense of humor and who is not self-aborbed, is more beautiful.
